Gifts for the Home (and more fishin)

Morning everyone. Jake and I woke up to a beautiful light snow falling this morning. It's really lovely. (And it's making the leftover yucky snow a little better.)

I wanted to report on a couple of projects to make the home a little prettier. First was some tiebacks for our curtains. Our curtains came with some that matched perfectly, but I was getting a little bored with lots of natural linen color. I didn't use a pattern to make these new tiebacks. I just used some velcro to attach them.



Next came a cute little bed for Apple Kitty. I took this pattern from the Bend the Rules Sewing Book by Amy Karol. You may not be able to see it in the picture, but there is a little fish laying on the pillow that is filled with catnip. She likes the catnip fish, but is yet to sleep on the pillow. Oh well, at least it looks pretty.



And lastly, we'll leave you with yet another fishing picture. Daddy just brought his rods in from the car. (I know, he might as well leave them in for another few months.) Apparently they need to be cleaned. In any case Jake is thrilled to have the real fishing rods in the house...the hall to be exact. Hmmm.

me again

I'm back. I hope y'all have enjoying having my mom do a little of the contributing around here. I've been feeling like I needed a little time off. Well I came back to see how things were going and couldn't help but notice that things have taken a definite feminine turn around here. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

But just to keep things balanced, here's a couple of pictures that I kinda like, one has tools and the other has the biggest bonfire in the whole world.


This is my new bigboy bed. It's from IKEA; which is Swedish for "kinda nice, but needs to be fixed already"


All the Christmas trees in town were collected, thrown onto a pile and torched. Awesome.

Backing Up

Hi all.  Mama here again.  We wanted to rewind a little bit this week to show some fun that was had over the New Year's weekend.  We traveled out to New York to spend time with Jer's side of the fam (we were in Maine for Christmas).  Not that this is unusual for upstate New York, but it snowed!  It was a nice light snow and it warmed up just perfectly during the day.  Perfect for playing outside, that is.  Jake was really able to enjoy winter outside as I remembered it when I was younger.  We did LOTS of sledding, helping Papa with the plowing, and peeking out the windows at night to see Nana and Papa's "rein"deer.

mama blogs - fishin' in january

Hi all - mama here. It seems that Jer, I mean Jake, has gotten quite busy lately, so mama is going to begin doing some blogs. Don't worry - the little guy will be putting in his two cents still just not quite as often as he did in the past. You may be hearing on a few non-toddler related subjects as well. I hope to share my latest creations in the crafty part of my life, so stay tuned as I share some pics next week of the many Christmas presents that have recently been gifted. For those who don't know this is a new hobby for me. I'm having a load of fun and I hope you'll see that through my work.

While Daddy met with friends for work on a project this afternoon Lil'J and I made it outside. Luckily, our fishing rod was awaiting our arrival the moment we headed out the door. We preceded to practice our casting throughout the neighborhood parks and dead-end streets. We're not practicing with a real hook. Jake's fishing rod is a special Cars (the movie) fishing rod that comes equipped with a tire for the line to be hooked onto. (I don't get the correlation between the Cars movie and fishing rods either.) I hope the little guy knows he won't be hooking into any fish anytime soon.
